Overview

While the entire Lebanese population in the Metro DC area is around 20,000, over half of those are from a Christian background, though most are from a Catholic or Orthodox tradition. Within the Lebanese Muslim population, it appears to be almost evenly split between Shia and Sunni.  This reflects the demographics of Lebanon itself, though Lebanon has a larger Muslim percentage.  With all of the diversity, it is a strategic country for ministry.  It has taken in more refugees per capita than any other nation.  It is also the only Arab nation that does not have laws against conversation, meaning it has long been strategic for ministry and missions to the Arab world.

Today, however, Lebanon itself is currently in bad shape politically and economically.  Politically, the involvement of Hezbollah in the Gaza conflict and the conflict in Iran creates danger and problems for the nation. While the economy is beginning to improve, there are still many who struggle to provide for their families.  As such, many Lebanese in America are also feeling burdened for their country and family that they still have there.  Many are working to support themselves here but also family back in Lebanon. Many are also worried about the safety of their family and country.

Prayer Points

  1.  Pray for Lebanese Christians to continue to be a light to the Muslim community, both in Lebanon and in America.
  2. Pray for healing and forgiveness for those who have been wounded by tragedy and war.
  3. Pray that Lebanese Muslims would be drawn to the light and hope that is found only in Jesus.
