Rather than being a specific country, Central Asia is broader region that has a significant number of Muslim people groups that live in the Metro DC area. This region includes the countries of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and much of Xinjiang province in western China. The six major ethnicities in this region are Uzbek, Uyghur, Turkmen, Kyrgyz, Kazakh, and Karakalpak. Central Asians in America still identify as Muslim, but they are often less faithful in their actual practice and daily lives.
Demographic research estimate there to be around 6,000 Central Asians in the Metro DC area. While we know of a few people trying to engage and share the gospel with some of these groups, there is a need for more champions in the DC area.
Prayer Points:
- Pray that God would raise up workers to engage each of these different Central Asian people groups.
- Pray that God would bring Christians into the lives of Central Asians. Pray that as they develop relationships, they would regularly share truth and be a gospel witness.
- Pray that God would draw Centra Asians to himself here in the Metro DC area, and that through them, the gospel would spread back to their countries.
