Thank you for praying for the past few days.  When we started, we began to look at the 5 pillars of Islamic faith to help us better understand the Muslim faith and how to pray for them.  We have already examined the fourth pillar of Islam when we learned about fasting during Ramadan. Today, we are looking at the Shehada, the first pillar of Islamic faith, and learning how we can use this as a springboard for prayer.

Simply stated, the Shehada is the very core of Islamic belief.  It states “There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is the Prophet (or messenger) of Allah.”  This belief is part of the call to prayer 5 times a day and part of the prayers themselves.  Some Muslims say it as they get up and go to bed.  It is to be the first words whispered in the ear of a newborn baby.  It is the very heart of their faith, and it is the foundation of the two biggest barriers for Muslims to accept the Gospel.

As we pray over this, pray that God would reveal his nature to Muslims.  As part of the Shehada, the believe the oneness of God means there is no Trinity, and they therefore deny the Trinity and deity of Christ.  This is one of the biggest stumbling blocks and objections for Muslims to the Gospel.  Yet there are countless stories of Jesus himself appearing to Muslims in dreams to reveal the truth of His nature.  Pray that God would open the eyes of our Muslim friend to the truth of who Jesus really is.

The second barrier is the truthfulness of Scripture.  For Muslims, they daily declare their devotion to the teachings of Muhammad in both the Quran (their holy book) and the Hadith (recorded sayings, teachings, and practices of Muhammad which form the foundation of their daily life and practice).  Additionally, they believe that God sent Muhammad as a prophet to correct false beliefs held by Jews and Christians.  This leads to their rejection of the Bible as a reliable source of truth as they believe it has been corrupted.  In order for Muslims to come to faith in Christ, God must confirm in their hearts the truth of the Bible that points them to Christ.

Prayer Points

  1.  Pray that God would open the eyes of Muslims in DC to the true nature of Jesus and what he did for them.  Pray that God would give them dreams and visions that confirm who Jesus is and send them on a journey of seeking him.
  2. Pray that Muslims in DC and around the world would accept the truth of the Bible as the uncorrupted Word of God.  Pray that God would affirm his character as one who protects His Word and never changes.  Pray that God would use the many pieces of Scripture that had been distributed throughout the DC area to draw Muslims to Himself.
  3. Pray that Muslims would encounter truth and that the truth would set them free from the lies of Islam.
