Overview

Before 1970 there were approximately 1,100 Pakistani Immigrants in the US. Today there are more than 400,000 Pakistani Immigrants that constitute one percent of the foreign-born population of the United States, with more than 10% of those, living along the DC/Baltimore Corridor. The Pakistani Muslims of DC area are more likely to hold advanced degrees than any other immigrant people group. Actually 50% of foreign-born Pakistanis at 25 years of age in the DC area hold a bachelors degree or higher. That’s 3% more than even native-born US citizens in the same area. They are a hardworking and very diligent people who take advantage of every opportunity!

The official government language of Pakistan is concurrently Urdu and English according to the 1973 Pakistani Constitution. This may be one reason why they as a group do some better in the US. Having some better start in English would give them a slight advantage. Because they are often successful according to society’s measure, they feel they are being rewarded by Allah and must be pleasing him. On the other hand, those who are not so successful feel they are not good Muslims and must strive harder to please Allah.

Because they work very hard to learn English, any American Christian can engage them in conversation. They are usually very open to sharing about their Islamic beliefs. With patience one can ask them questions that will help them understand that there is no Savior in their belief system. Then our personal testimony may touch their need for real eternal assurance!

  • Pray for area Mosque leaders to have a dream or vision about Isa (Jesus)
  • Pray for the American Dream to be seen for how shallow and temporary it is.  Pray that their hearts would be draw to Jesus.
  • Pray for the many churches and believers in DC area convicted to share with Muslims, particularly Pakistani who may be in their sphere of influence.
  • Pray for evangelical social media would grab the hearts of young Pakistanis.  Pray that they will be drawn to ads and messages about Jesus and begin seeking truth in the Bible.
